Don’s Marine: Making boating fun since 1937

Welcome to the Summer

Memorial Day weekend is over, and we’re just starting to recover around here. It’s been a busy spring for us. When you’re out on the lake, you’re going to be seeing a lot of shiny new boats and a lot of smiling faces. It feels good to know that we’ve helped to make that happen.

We always do our best to treat you right. It doesn’t matter if you’re buying a high-end pontoon or a spark plug; all customers deserve the same courtesy and quality service. Something you may not hear as often, however, is that you treat us right, too. We’d like to thank you for that.

A company doesn’t get to be 70 years old without the help and respect of their customers. A lot of things have changed since Don first started this business back in 1936. But one thing has stayed the same: We have great customers who have made us a great company. Over the next few months, while you’re out enjoying the water, we’ll be working hard on even more ways to improve our company and the services we provide for you.

70 years in business: you’ve made it possible.

Thank you.

Enjoy the summer!

TotW: A Stitch in Time

Tip of the Week.

This weekend kicks off the official beginning of the summer. Even if you already have your boat in the water, and you’ve been using it for the past few weeks, it’s still a good idea to take time for a pre-season check. If you had your boat summerized by us, we’ve already checked the boat itself. There are still a few things, however, that should be checked before you start out.

  • Do you have enough PFDs for everyone? Are they in good condition? Are they the right size for the peope who’ll be wearing them? (This is especially important for children who can quickly outgrow their old PFD.)
  • Do you have a throwable flotation device on board? Is it in good shape? Is it easy to get to if it’s needed?
  • Do you have a flashlight or glow sticks? Does the flashlight have fresh batteries? Can you find it in the dark?
  • Is your first aide kit stocked? Is everything inside still in good shape? Have any of the medicines or first-aide creames expired?
  • Do you have a basic tool kit? Screwdrivers (philips and flat-head), pliers, and wire-cutters (for fishing-hook accidents).
  • Do you have a fire extinguisher? (Many boats are required by law to have one onboard.) Is it charged and in good condition? Do you (and your passengers or other drivers) know how to use it?
  • Do you have sunscreen?
  • Do you have a way to signal for help if you get stranded? Flares? Glow sticks? (These are much better than flares, since they last longer, don’t spoil, are water-proof, and won’t start your boat on fire.)
  • Is your docking line in good condition?
  • Do you have spare fuses? Spare bulbs for your running lights?
  • Are you familiar with any changes to the law?

A few minutes spent making sure you’re prepared can save you hours later on. It can even save your life.
